Brewers Farm Report
While Milwaukee does not have the same reputation as the Yankees or any other big market club in evaluating Latin-American talent, there is one player worth noting in the Dominican Summer League Brewers – Angel Ventura.
Ventura began the season as a reliever but eventually found a role as starter after producing phenomenal performances out of the bullpen.
The 20-year-old pitcher is in his third season with the Brewers’ organization and struck out 65 batters in 60 innings for the DSL Brewers.
Ventura started his season off with a bang striking out a career-high nine batters in relief June 10 against the DSL Orioles and allowed just four hits and one walk.
In addition to his high strikeout totals, he has demonstrated tremendous control walking just 22 batters through the entire season and allowing one ball to leave the yard.
He started four of his final five appearances notching a 2-0 record with 28 strikeouts and eight walks.
Subsequently, Ventura pitched eight strong innings July 27 against the DSL Nationals striking out eight and walking two batters but came away with the No Decision for the DSL Brewers after allowing three earned runs.
In Ventura’s start prior to the No Decision, he went seven innings allowing no earned runs and struck out six DSL Blue Jays batters.
